New year, new clothing swap!
Embrace the joy of sharing at our clothing swap event! Refresh your wardrobe, connect with friends old and new, and celebrate finding new treasures! This is a fat-positive and weight-inclusive event. We encourage everyone to come prepared to have a great time while practicing mindfulness around weight-biased or diet-culture language.
Event will be outside, weather permitting
Philosophy:
We recognize that clothing is vulnerable and carries meaning that may vary from person to person. Living in a society obsessed with size, we also acknowledge that swapping clothes may bring up negative feelings regarding our bodies. So that we can foster a fun and relaxed environment for everyone, let’s try to embrace the beauty of diversity around our bodies and focus on the goal: free stuff.
This means that we encourage you to leave disparaging comments about your body at the door and step into a supportive environment where we focus on style rather than size or shape. We trust that you’re the best judge of what makes you feel happy and confident and we hope to support each other in embracing the sartorial in a way that feels safe and empowering.
Who we are:
We are a small group of dietitians and creatives who love clothing and wanted to create an event in Tucson that welcomes everyone to disrupt the textile waste industry, empower us to find likeminded friends interested body neutrality, and have fun sharing our styles.
Structure:
We welcome you to bring clothing of all styles and sizes as well as accessories (bags, shoes, belts, jewelry, etc), and make-up/products (preferably sanitized as necessary).
The structure will be very laidback. You just bring your stuff, set it out according to type (shirts, pants, etc), take the stuff that works for you, buy a drink, meet new friends, and that’s all. We will provide tables to set out clothing and racks to hang dresses/jumpsuits/blazers/outerwear.
We recommend bringing a tote to carry home your new items.
Leftover Clothing:
All leftover clothing will be donated to community organizations that we admire, including:
Casa Alitas
No More Deaths
YWCA: Your Sister’s Closet
Impact of Southern Arizona
We chose these organizations to prevent our used clothing from getting lost in the textile waste system and to support high-impact local groups.
